MEBE is a 4-years multi-disciplinary research programme sponsored by Oil Companies and French Research organizations. We drove together a group of scientists whose expertise includes several domains of tectonics, stratigraphy, kinematics, modelling and geophysics towards a common objective. This objective was a reconstruction of tectonic evolution of the Middle East domain since Late Triassic including (1) the stable continental platforms and sedimentary basins of Arabia and South eastern Eurasia, and (2) the Eurasia/Africa-Arabia collision zone, including the major orogenic belts of Caucasus, Northern and Central Iran, and Zagros. From 2003 to 2006 we funded 26 scientific projects involving more than 300 scientists from 25 countries of Europe and the Middle East. One major original aspect of our program consisted of developing active and strong cooperation with 13 Middle-East organizations. Our data and results represent a major contribution to new interpretations of the geological evolution of the Middle East. We integrated our data in an interactive GIS Database providing a tool for geoscientists studying the geological and geodynamic evolution of the Middle East. Last but no least, the MEBE Programme was the opportunity to develop realistic and efficient interactions between the academic and industrial worlds

- Black Sea opening and structure
- Evolution of the Caucasus domain
- South Caspian Basin and Northern-Central Iran evolution
- Pre-collision structure of the Northeastern Arabian margin
- Zagros tectonics
- Evolution of the Levant margin and basin

The Scientific Programme will consist of five regional thematic sessions: Black Sea, Caucasus, Levant margin, South Caspian Basins – Central Iran, and Zagros.

Tuesday 4 December

09h 00 - 09h 30 : Opening Session
09h 30 - 12h 20 : Black Sea and Caucasus Sessions
14h 00 - 18h 00 : Caucasus and Levant Margin Sessions

Wednesday 5 December

08h 30 - 12h 20 : South Caspian Basin – Central Iran Session
14h 00 - 18h 00 : Zagros Session

    • Oral presentations will be grouped according to specific themes. Oral presentation is limited to 20 minutes, including 5 minutes for discussion. Electronic projection will be the only format available. Speakers will have access to one electronic data projector, a single screen and pointer.
    • Two one-day Poster sessions are planned in a hall attached to the Symposium room. For each poster, individual freestanding boards (size: 1.20 m height x 0.90 m width) will be allocated. At least one of the authors must be present during the dedicated poster times
.

An abstracts volume will be compiled and distributed at the Symposium. Abstract must be in English and are limited to two pages A4 format, including figures.
Please submit abstract in attached file to the following email address: c2s@club-internet.fr
in the form Word for PC in Arial 11 font.
